Coeur d'Alene fly fishing begins twenty miles east of the North Idaho resort town, Coeur d’Alene, on the Coeur d’Alene River. The Coeur d'Alene River flows through a variety of water types including pools, riffles and runs which allows an angler to use many different fly fishing techniques. ROW offers both float and walk-and-wade style fly fishing trips on the upper Coeur d'Alene, depending on seasonal regulations. The upper section, which includes Tee Pee and Independence creeks, offers superlative walk-and-wade fly fishing and you can expect to catch fish that are bigger than what you’d probably expect to find in these headwaters. There is a very healthy population of Cutthroat and Rainbow trout ranging from 6” to 21”.
Throughout the season, the Coeur d’Alene River provides a variety of different hatches. The spring is marked by its remarkable May Fly hatch. Terrestrials and stimulator patterns are a must have in the summer time. And September and October are well know for their consistent daily caddis hatch. When deciding between Stone Flies, May Flies, Caddis and Terrestrials, an angler will benefit from the experience of ROW's expert fly fishing guides. The giant golden stone flies provide some of the best dry fly fishing anywhere. Considering it's close proximity to town, the Coeur D'Alene River is a true North Idaho gem. The Coeur d'Alene is a fantastic river for half, full or multi-day fly fishing trips.
